    hi guys
i am running xp pro sp2. I have a pentium 3 motherboard 733 mhz celeron processor both are approximately 2 monthes old. I have 288 mb memory 40 gb hard drive and 10gb slave drive.
every time i go to get on a game i get the messege not enough available memory. Now i have played these games last time being last night. I have deleted cookies, cleared files and folders, and history thinking this was my problem. I still get the same messege. I restarted computer and still the same. I am really confused on this one.

Thanks in advance for your help
    Tom

that stuff is alot older then two months haha:D reccomended minimum ram for WXP is 256mb i think.... but even then i doubt that you can multitask stuff like having AIM/MSN/ICQ/YAHOO in the background while trying to play a game. the only way to fix that is to buy more ram

Deleting all that stuff will make for more room on your hard drives, but it won't have much impact on memory usage.

288MB of RAM isn't likely the right figure. I'd believe 256MB. Get some more -- a total of 512MB would probably be OK, but 1GB would be better. Even if your machine will run without more than 256MB, it will be more stable and will run faster if it has more.

I tried to edit my previous post, but got timed out. Here's the edited version:

288MB of RAM isn't likely the right figure. I'd believe 256MB. Or, given the dated technology in your system, 128MB.

Omegamerc is right. 256MB is the minimum you should have, so make sure that you have at least that much. If you can, bump it up to a total of 512MB or 1GB. Even if your machine will run without more than 256MB, it will be more stable and will run faster if it has more.

I was just mocking the fact that the pc parts are old; not when you purchased it. Theres a good chance that between Sept and now you have spyware/malware on your pc. I reccomend using HiJackThis! n adaware SE 1.x. If your visiting websites that collect information (type that says save info?) theres a good chance that theyre tracking the things you do on the pc.

Rob, 288 mb of RAM is probably correct. My laptop is 288mb, composed of 32mb of on-board RAM plus 2 x 128 sticks, gives 288mb. Maximum allowed on my old PC, unfortunately.:p More RAM is always advisable, if possible.:D ;) Bazza

ok 256 is more than enough to run xp
i once ran server 2003 with 128mb, smooth as silk ;)
id say that you probably have some sort of spyware on your comp
    try sbybot search and destry

Thanks, Bazza -- that's a possibility that didn't occur to me. But then, laptops sometimes do things in strange ways!

And nearly all of it is OEM, or proprietary, unfortunately. Bazza
