I’d appreciate if some one could help me.
I don’t’ have internet connection on my pc for few days (wireless and wired, it does not matter). I’ve been in touch with my internet provider and run some tests, and the broadband is fine. I was told that the problem is with my pc. (actually I can get internet connection with my tablet).

Sometimes the pc tells me the connection is fine, but in fact there is not connection (when I try to open a web page I got “Server not found”)

On my pc, when I run the Repair tool, sometimes I got this message:

    “Connection status

    Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer.”

    Or this message:

    “Could not renew your IP”

Any idea how I could fix this problem?

Looks like either your router (box from your ISP) or your computer is not doing its DHCP job. Since your tablet is working I suspect your computer.
Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
check that DHCP says yes and you have an IP address for your adapter.

Thanks a lot for help and reply.

    DHCP says Yes.

The thing is, I am not all the time without connection. The problem is intermittent. Few hours I don’t have connection and few hours later I have, everyday happens

When I did ipconfig/all I had connection, so I guess everything might seems normal at that time.
Could I do something to avoid lose connection again?

Does the tablet have connection even when the pc doesn't? If so, the NIC card in your PC might either be going bad or turning off power to conserve energy.

    Hi,
When the pc does not have connection the tablet got connection. Its only the pc, and not all the time, intermittent.
    any idea what's wrong?

    Greetings, burnet01.

What's your operating system version and Service Pack #? We have a continuing problem here that exhibits symptoms roughly similar to yours - on a Windows 8.1 machine if for any reason the system is rebooted, we must also reboot our router. The problem is in the IP renewal and handshaking between the two machines, and the symptoms look just like yours.

    Hi Caliban,

I got something more ancient. I got XP, SP3.
I was guessing what you just said, the problem might be with my PC, IP renewal and handshaking, but I know nothing about this and no idea how to fix it.
For the last two days is working fine, but as I said its intermittent, and anytime will happens again.
What did you do to fix the problem?

I haven't fixed the problem - we still have to reboot the router if the 8.1 machine is restarted. All other Vista and 7 machines are fine, which leads me to believe it's some protocol mismatch with the newer 8.1. In the near future I plan to replace the router (it's an older AT&T Netgear gateway).

XP SP3 should be fine, as well. I think you should pursue plodr's suggestion about the NIC card or your onboard NIC - you might try searching for any updated ethernet drivers, and if you are running a discrete card you might consider seeing about a replacement.

You might also log into your router and checking if there's a firmware update available from your ISP or router manufacturer.

The "intermittent" aspect is troubling - that might be an avenue to explore if all else fails. Maybe a bad connection somewhere? One other thought - try booting into Safe Mode w/ Networking and run the machine for a while, see if you get a change in symptoms.

You can purchase something like this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833314093
this is a no-brainer. You plug it into a USB port and put the ethernet cable from your computer into this.

if the desktop stays on the internet, you know the card is dying.

The other option is to open the computer case and install a card.

    similar to this.

Note: before you purchase a NIC, please state the brand and exact model of computer. We need to know if you have spare slots and what type they are. There is nothing worse than buying a card and finding out there is no place to put it.
