Not Quite Computer Question

    I own a large assortment of videos of various formats. Planned them for internet downtime. However my computer has gone down more often than that. Leaving me with a pile of DVDs that most players can't play.

    So I've been looking into multimedia players for the tv. Something I can put videos on an external drive and then play it all on the Tv.

    But.. there are so many options out there and my funds are slim. So I need advise from geeks.

    I'm not clear if you are referring to standalone DVD players (hardware) or computer programs (software).

    please post some of the formats so we have a clue what you have.

    I either burn DVDs so my standalone player can play them or save as mp4 or avi and put them on an sd card. I can then move them onto two netbooks, desktop computers or my android tablet to watch. (USB sticks and microsd cards for certain devices)

    Standalone player. I suppose dvd would work but most of those can't handle more than 1-2tb drives and I was hoping to get something a bit larger than that. That was anything new I wanted wouldn't be put into Dvd's, that can get easily scratched, but onto an external drive which I would then plug into the player. I'd prefer a devise made specifically for it but I don't know the proper name, just multimedia.

    ...and just to add to the above. If you are trying to find a way to put actual purchased DVDs onto an external harddrive, you will run into DRM anti piracy protection. It is illegal to copy a DVD or VHS onto another source. If this is what you are trying to do we won't be able to help you. You'd have to look elsewhere online for that and even if you find something, it's very difficult.
