Not Receiving Emails

With Windows XP Professional on a laptop I am using MsOutlook 2003 with a Outlook.com email account which has worked fine for years. Suddenly it will not receive or send emails and shows an error message Ox800CCCOF , the connection to the server was interrupted.

I have checked all of my email account settings and nothing seems changed or currupt there. Trying to send a message gets an administrator message that the message was undeliverable, client is not authenticated to send anonymouse mail. - ?
Trying to send settings test in email account failed for receiving saying could not connect to incoming server pop3, check settings and verify email address.

I have run Malware Bytes with nothing found. I am using Avast antivirus and window firewall.
My Wifi signal is strong, fast and connected. Access to the internet is fine.

Need help in getting my emails working in MsOutlook please.

    Barry

    Have you contacted your ISP?

Thanks Tim, but it does not appear to be an ISP issue.

    Thanks Plodr -
I have checked the picture settings you referred to and mine appear to be correct.
I have not been able to open in safe mode as my computer cannot find any program/files for safe mode, which is kind of weird. My installation disc is presently elsewhere so I cannot currently access this.
I saw some blogs about people altering scripts to correct some corrupted files but I am not that proficient. So I started thinking that if I completely deleted the account entry and set it up again from scratch, this might help. I had already deleted the account and re-entered it with no change, so this time I deleted the account and closed Outlook 2003 down. After re-opening Outlook I set up the same account from scratch using exactly the same settings - hey presto, it immediatly started downloading all the waiting emails.
However it still will not send emails and strangely when I do a test of the settings within account settings, it fails for both outgoing and incoming. But it is now working fine for receiving emails.
So now I need to continue trying to resolve the sending problem, but suspect there are still some corrupted files related to settings. It would be nice to wipe all of the stored account setting scripts so I could create new ones entirely from a clean slate, but I have no idea if or how that could be done.

I have still not been able to resolve the sending email problem and currently still not able to send any mail. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I could try to establish a sending connection?

To run outlook in safe mode you need to type outlook.exe /safe noting the space after .exe - it won't run without the space.

Ok thanks, I have opened it in safe mode and it is just the same, not sending/receiving emails. By the way it is back to not sending or receiving emails after having shut down the laptop and restarted it.

    Help still needed.

This morning my Outlook 2003 appears to be sending emails but not receiving. Last week it was not sending or receiving and before that it was only receiving. The strange thing is this is irratic without me changing anything. All appears to be working fine in my Outlook.com webmail account via a browser.
So help still needed to resolve my emailing problems please.

    regards

Are you talking to your incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers correctly across the specified ports?

Or is it a Webmail account?

Edit: must be an outlook issue then

Does the issue occur using another email client?

    Lets say, Thunderbird?

You are using an OS and email client both of which are very seriously out of date and from the behaviour I'm suspecting there may be a security issue with the outlook.com servers. So happens I do still have XP on a virtual machine and also have an old version of MS Outlook, 2002 rather than your 2003 and I also have an outlook.com account. All this used to work just fine but doesn't now and I'm frequently seeing the same error as you, Ox800CCCOF 'unable to connect to the server'. I haven't succeeded with sending at all and receiving always fails at first but I have had a few test messages turn up 2-3 days late but there isn't any consistent pattern so I've had to give up. Get an up to date system.

Replicator > yes I have the right ports and settings as specified by Outlook.com and of course these have been working fine for years up until just recently and intermittently just now. I can see merit in checking using an alternative mail client, but Thunderbird has a large footprint of around 13 gb to install in a small available disk space, so if I can find a free alternative with a tiny footprint?

Earthling > Yes I will soon have a more modern system but need to get this working again as a secondary working system. Although hard to find, I do not think the problem is a major failure and has been working fine until just now, with current intermittent working.
What type of server security issues are you referring to please.

This is the sort of warning I'm having to override to gain access to my outlook.com IMAP account in Outlook 2002.

I have never had any security warnings/messages and so suspect that our problems causes are not exactly the same although the symtoms may be similar.

The following update may indicate that the issue is not specifically with Outlook 2003 even though the emailing is affected:-

I continue to have email problems, although this has changed from not being able to send messages to now sending is working and receiving is not.
All emailing is working fine in the Outlook.com webmail account.

Alongside this I am having more problems with keeping my computer connected to the wifi connection and now suspect that this may in fact be the cause of the email problems.. It intermittently disconnects to wifi and sometimes wont repair the connection sometimes saying it cannot finish complete clearing the DNS cache. When it does repair, it often says that there is limited or no connectivity and that the network did not assign a network address to the computer. During this time no web pages will load even when the connection seems to have repaired itself. I have checked the wifi connection on my mobile which picks up on the same wifi signal as the computer and this is working fine all the time. This confirms that the TalkTalk wifi connection is ok as indeed their line checks showed no problems. Turning off/on the computer does not fix the issue but turning off/on the router seems to re-connect and allow web pages to load, so this is a bit strange.

We have uninstalled and re-installed the adapter and this shows as working fine with no problems in Device Manager.

There appears to be something else with the computer that is causing the connection to wifi issue and I suspect the emailing problem too.

All that makes perfect sense. As your mobile is ok it raises doubts about your wireless adapter but getting a new one for XP might be a problem. Personally I wouldn't wholly trust Device Manager. Anyway I'd better find out what has happened with mine

Maybe I should get a USB mini wifi adapter, say to ac600 spec and see if it makes a difference, they seem compatible with XP, so at least I could remove that from the investigation if it doesn't sort it.

    Hello again Earthling,
An update since my last posting.
I have at last installed a USB wifi adapter now working with my XP. It is a Realtek dual band 802.11ac now giving me a strong stable connection with speed up to 195 Mbps, a big improvement on my previous 54 Mbps with constant dropouts.
However this has had no effect on my email issues with Outlook 2003 which still will not receive but I think is sending ok.
I have just removed the entire account, rebooted, and set up the account again, still no change, it is not receiving. I have once again double checked all the settings and they appear to be correct as required and as successfully used before.
Currently I am emailing successfully in my outlook.com web account.
I attach an Outlook log viewer report which shows the details of a failed receiving event, if there is anyone who might be able to read anything useful from that.

So following this, I am again looking for help to resolve my Outlook 2003 emailing issue.
    regards
    Barry

    Repair MS Outlook.
You don't need the installation disc unless you deleted the MSOCache folder.
