I have an ACER notebook with windows Vista Home Premium spk1 and 3 gig memory. I just installed a new HDD and used my ACER supplied recovery disks. I also used Driver Agent to make sure all drivers were the most up to date. However, since the install of the new hardware and the restore, I now get a lot of "not responding" from most of my programs, and also get a "bla bla bla.exe has stopped working and now must close", when I am shutting down WMP or IE7, or Itunes.

Is this possibly some driver issues?
The pc is clean, no infections.
I don't think I had all of these issues with the old HDD.

Any suggestions for remedy is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Susan the Geek

Its very possible that some drivers are not 100% compatible and I never really trust the ones that driver finder softwares locate as being the most compatible, ACER will have tested theirs so those are the ones to use, even if they are not the newest, only main ones to upgrade to newer ones once the PC is stable are GFX and Network, I would leave Sound driver to original ACER ones.

But can also be a software issue, sometimes security applications can cause issues with other apps, so do make sure you follow the rule of thumb in only having 1 live scanning/resident Antivirus, Firewall and Antispyware application installed.

To fully know whats causing this would need to know the error messages in full and verbatim, once something crashes, the write the message down on screen or take screenshot ( sniping tool in Vista is good for grabbing just the window mesasge needed ) you can look in Error Logs for clues or in Control Panel > System Maintanence > Problem Reports and Solutions

and also Reliablty Monitor, just type in the Start Search box Reliability and it will list in search as easiest way to locate this.

I do not see any solutions on the MS website. All drivers have been installed that acer has on their site.

Someone recommended something from MS that needed updating. Something net or something dotnet?
    Thanks
    Susan
