The computer is not turning on and no beeping sounds. I opened up the computer and found out the standby green light is on. If the green light is on does that mean the power supply works?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Not necesarily. It means that the power supply is still producing some voltage. Chances are, the power supply is dead. I've worked on many EMachines, and their power supplies (especially in the 2600 and 2800 series) are really bad. They usually die in under 18 months. You can get a decent new ATX power supply for under $50, probably under $40 if you find a sale. It won't be top of the line, but you probably don't need the best. My friend bought a $32 power supply from a local independent PC store over 3 years ago and it's going strong. Only 375w, but with one DVD drive and onboard video and one HD, that's all he needs....

Thanks I will purchase another power supply. My last question is about the front power connector. I pulled three wire sets off the power connector (each set consists of a solid and white wire. I cannot read the schematic below correctly. The schematic has 1-9 pins. For example, the power switch has two wires. Does it matter if the white wire goes in pin 7 OR 8? And for the red and white bulb wire set does it matter if I plug the white wire in pin 3 OR 4? And lastly, the green and white bulb set. Does it matter if I plug the white wire in pin 5 OR 6?

Black and white = power switch
Red and white = light bulb
Green and white = light bulb

    Thanks,

    Chris

Hi bad news. I swapped power supplies with another "like" computer. Still no power. I plugged the power switch to pin 5 (black) and pin 6 (white). What should be the next step?

The power switch goes on pins 6 and 8. The hard drive LED goes on pins 1 and 3 with the colored wire on pin 1. The power LED goes on pins 2 and 4 with the colored wire on pin 2. It doesn't matter which color goes where with the power switch as long as it is on pins 6 and 8. EMachines don't have reset switches so leave pins 5 and 7 and 9 open.

Thanks I made the changes you mentioned below.

I used the emachines power supply on a HP 725n computer. It worked fine (a little noisy).

Do you think I still have a defective power supply? Should I try replacing the power switch? I read somewhere on this forum that defective RAM might be causing power up problems. Any suggestions?
