    I downloaded Antivir version 6.0. It gave me a message that it found a virus in my .CAB file but can not remove it from archive files the message is below
    FS276.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031412.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1
    --> A0031414.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    --> A0031416.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    FS277.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031418.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1

    Because it is in an archive file should I be concerned? And if so how do I remove it from a archived file without messing something up. Please let me know. Thank you in advance for all your help.

    If it is in an actual Microsoft CAB then it is a false positive. To make sure your system is clean:

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

    Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

    After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    I have follow the procedure that was in the note from Major Atitude. I also ran Doctor Spyware, as well as norton and Antivir and still get ths message listed below when I run Antivir no other process gives me this error
    FS276.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031412.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1
    --> A0031414.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    --> A0031416.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    FS277.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031418.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1

    I have included a copy of my HJT in an attachnment as you stated. My question is can I delete the .CAB file, or it it just false posative as you stated and I am in good shape and don't have to do anything? Please let me know

    If you have 2 Anti-Virus applications installed, uninstall one of them. They will often conflict with each other, even when only one is resident. Antivir often returns false positives. What directory are the files located?

    You do not have HijackThis installed as requested. Please install HJT to C:\Program Files\HJT.

    Please run Panda Online Scan. After the scan attach the log to your next post. Also please follow the below:

    1 - Please EXTRACT all files from Qoologic Tool to its own folder - C:\Program Files\QoologicFinder . Then, DoubleClick Find-Qoologic.bat to run the tool. It should produce a log - Please attach that with your next post!

    2 - Please EXTRACT all the files form RKFiles Tool to its own folder named C:\Program Files\RKTOOL. Then, Please boot to SAFE MODE and DoubleClick rkfiles.bat to run the tool. Let it run and then, when it finishes, look for a log at C:\Log.txt and please attach that log.

    Now come back here and post all three logs as attachments and a fresh HJT log. You will have to do 2 posts to post all 4 logs.

    Download
    - Pocket Killbox
    - ExplorerXP

    Please follow the steps below:

    - download Nail/Bolder/Aurora Remover 0.3.1 Beta and save it to its own folder like c:\ABIremover

    - Now extract the abiremover.exe file from the ZIP file into the folder you created but do not run the EXE yet. We will run it later.

    - Download this trial version of Ewido Security Suite

    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will have a window come up. One of the buttons on the left is to Update. Click the Update button.and then Start the Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • After it completes the update, click the Scanner button
    Now exit Ewido. Now print the below instructions or save them locally because I want you do have no browsers opened and also have no connection to the internet (unplug your cable) while doing the below.

    Okay, reboot into safe mode and follow the steps below. (If you have any problems at all trying to get into safe mode to complete these steps, just run them in normal boot mode and make sure you tell me when you come back.)

    - Now while still in safe mode, run the abiremover.exe but make sure you are physically disconnected from the internet (unplug your cable to be sure). Just click install, wait (explorer window will disapear)

    - When abiremover finishes continue with the below steps.

    Open up Ewido and do the following:
    • Click on Scanner
    • Then click Settings
    • Under What to Scan? Select Scan every file
    • Then click OK
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.
    • Let the program scan the machine
    While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files that are infected. Leave the defaults selections (to Remove and backup) and click OK. To save yourself some time, you can select Perform action with all infections and then click OK. With the option to scan every file, a lot of cookies will be removed.

    Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop or anyplace you will be able to find it to upload here.
    Reboot into normal mode and reconnect to the internet.

    Post your Ewido and HJT logs as attachments.

    Other than those 2 lines your HijackThis log is clean.

    Re: Not Sure About This Virus (last Chapter

    Thank you for resolving all my problems but this is the original. When I run antivar I get the following messages

    FS276.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031412.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1
    --> A0031414.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    --> A0031416.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/Alcra.B
    FS277.CAB
    ArchiveType: CAB (Microsoft)
    --> A0031418.CPY
    [DETECTION] Contains signature of the worm WORM/VB.an.1

    They are in a windows cab file. Is this a visur waiting to jump out or is this a false reading and I should not worry about it. Antivar does not delete from CAB files. Please let me know. thank you in advasce for any help.

    Re: Not Sure About This Virus (last Chapter

    Are you sure you have disabled system restore? If it is disable, I have to wonder why you still have files in system restore.

    If it is disabled, try deleting those referenced files manually.

    Re: Not Sure About This Virus (question about deletion)

    If I manually delete those files could I remove somethng that I may need at some point in time from those CAB files? If not then I will remove them manually.

  17. Shadow_Puter_Dude

    Shadow_Puter_Dude MG Authorized Malware Fighter

    A CPY file is a system restore point. If you had disabled system restore as per the READ ME FIRST AntiVir wouldn't be finding viruses in the retore points, because there would be none.

    Disable System Restore as per this thread: Disable and Enable Sytem Restore and then reboot your computer. Your system restore points will be removed.
