Not sure if this is a virus, infection or whatnot

I am not sure if my issue is virus or operating system related, or whatever it is. Since my symptoms are based upon protection software, I posted here. My post details the only symptoms I've seen.

My computer was running normally this morning, usual browsing through the same sites, until I noticed the AVG icon in my taskbar was gray, claiming my definitions were out of date. When I went to update the virus definitions, the update process claimed I was up to date, yet the icon stayed gray. A full scan with AVG claims no threats found.

Windows Defender also claims I need to check for new definitions, although I ran that the other day. When I try to update Defender, I get Error found: 0x80072f8f. I went to the Windows site and downloaded an update, ran it and still get the same error.

Ad-aware Personal SE won't update as well and claims my definitions are 114 days old, although that is not the case and not even close to accurate.

Spybot -- Search & Destroy won't update due to a bad checksum on downloading the updates.

I update the definitions on all of these programs almost every day, at least once a week and sometimes more often. I run each scan at least once a week as well. Basically, I cannot update my protection software and thus cannot trust the scans. Other than these symptoms, which I consider serious and not isolated, my machine is running normally. What can I do to find out what is wrong and what is the next step? Do I need go through the Read Me & Run me First steps, even though I am not certain this is an infection?

    Hi

That error 0x80072f8f is generally linked to date/time and/or timezone not set correctly on your PC, so do check this. Double check your firewall also by turning it off and going to Win Update.

But malware can cause this, so well worth running throught the Read Me & Run guide and attaching the requested logs.

After I posted, I did find the calendar was on the wrong date. That is most probably because I was using it earlier in the day, though I don't remember clicking "Apply" instead of "Close." Once I reset the date and time, all the programs updated properly. None of the scans I ran yesterday showed and threat present. I think I should be all clear, yet I'll monitor the computer and post logs if needed. Thank you. :)

    HI

Glad it was a easy fix like this, yes keep a monitor of your security scans to check for malware and run guide if necassary, but likely your OK now as the updaters are working and syncing with the update servers OK.
