Not sure what the problem is but it is there.

I received an old laptop (Vaio PCG-8P1M). I decided instead of buying a Wireless Adapter for my Xbox, I would use this. I have used other laptops easily for this job before. I attempt to connect to my wireless network, no luck. It is stuck on Validating Identity. By googling the problem it tells me to untick "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network." in Network Connections properties. I don't actually have a preferred network connection, so I set this up, but could not find WPA2, which is the security I use. Does this mean this laptop doesn't support it? Is there anything I can do to change this?

Update the BIOS and Network Drivers; also try hard wiring the laptop into you network so that the laptop has at least been validated into your network. I assume you have your Network name and security key for input when asked on connection; are you getting that far?

I set it as WPA-PSk, hoping this could work, and now it just "Please wait while Windows connects tothe 'xxxx' network." "Waiting for the network..."

It does this for a long time.

Using the ethernet cable that goes into my tower, I connected it to the laptop in question. It came up as connected, but browsers didn't work, and nothing else like Windows Live Messenger would connect.

Could you take a screenshot from your device propierties? I mean WPA Settings, specify wireless model and we'll see.

I may have taken along time to reply, but that no less means I still need help...

Is this what you are talking about?

Wait wait wait, if Messenger Works, and you can chat with anyone, that means you have connectivity to internet and that's good.

If you can't see anything trying to explore that's other problem. So please tell us this:

Test with Cord Cable and with Wireless

    1- Start > run > CMD

    In the black screen type:

    ping google.com

press enter and tell us if there's some response.
