A two year old little girl in Oklahoma has died of poisoning after swallowing a button battery from a toy about a week earlier.

Just thought everyone with toddlers would benefit.

Apparently, it didn't pass through her GI tract and before she had declined to the point where her parents took her to ER, it was too late to save her life.

A very sad story indeed. :(

Since all childrens' toys with batteries have screws that need to be unscrewed to remove the cover, I would imagine this was a mistake on the parents part as far as putting it in reach considering the fact that I doubt there is anyone out there that wouldn't know batteries would be extremely dangerous to ingest..

Obviously, the general warning with parents with toddlers is do not put anything of danger in their reach since they will put anything in there mouths.

Sad story and while on the topic something similar that is equally dangerous are bucky balls and other small powerful neodymium magnets. If several are swallowed they clump together often jamming internal tissue and are very hard for doctors to remove without doing internal damage.
Laura's warning is true as small kids put everything in their mouths so keep small or dangerous items out of their reach.;)

    LauraR,

I don't know the source of the tiny button cell but my mind went directly to those musical greeting cards so popular today.

I seriously doubt the parents knew that a card (if that actually was the source) could be a poison risk.

We've all seen the result of leaving a cellular phone on the dashboard on a bright sunny day. Easily capable of totaling your car!

I'll try to post a picture if I can remember where to find it.
