I am going to be buying a notebook in the near fututer and i am torn between which notebook to get. The battle is between the dell inspiron 700m ultra portable and the dell inspiron 9300. Now i havea freind that has a 700m and he loves it and has no complaints. But becuase of only a 400 dollar price difference I can't decide which one to get, here are the system specs for each of them. And for me a weight difference of only a couple pounds isn't that big of a deal.

    700M
    INtel Pentium M 745 (1.8 GHZ 400MHZ Bus) with a 12.1 WXGA screen
    XP Pro
    4 yr limited warranty
1 GB DDR RAM (2 dimms)
    80 GIG hard drive
    24x cdrw/DVD Rom
65 whr 8-cell battery and an additional one
    intel PRO?wireless internal 802.11 B/G

    inspiron 9300
    Intel Pentium M 750 (1.86 GHZ 533MHz bus)
    XP Pro
17 inch UltraSharp Wide screen UXGA Display with true life
    4 year ltm warranty
    1 GB DUal Channel DDR2 533 MHZ
    60 gig 7200rpm
    9 cell battery
    64MB mobility x300
    intel Pro/wireless 2200 interlan wireless 802.11 B/G

Now i will not really be playingn games on this labtop unless i decide to spring 200 more dollars and get the GeForce Go 6800 Which is highly unlikely. This will mainly be a computer for writing papers surfing the internet watching DVD's on the go and stuff like that. I am going to be getting a new computer to play games on.

Right now these are the prices

    700M=2,043$
    9300 inspiron=2,464$

    Thanks for the help

In that case, I would go with the 700!

If the few hundred dollars extra aren't an issue, then definitely the 9300.

It has dual channel ram, faster front side bus, better battery and a much larger screen in Wide Screen format which is very desirable for watching DVD's.

    Well worth the extra.

Unlike a desktop, it's not that simple to upgrade notebook components.

I just bought a laptop a couple of weeks ago and I agree with Insomniac, if money isn't an issue.

I discovered in my search and decision making process that I wanted more of a desktop replacement heavier type laptop, with decent battery life and the original XP CD or one that allows you to just load the operating system if you choose. You are getting XP Pro which is great and I would want that capability, just something I would check on.

Just a few tips on extending battery life here, http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/700-0-0-225-121.aspx

    Good luck, :D

I just got the 9300 Inspiron with the WUXGA screen and I cannot see any pages in the internet correctly. The page is on the left side of screen and in some websites the words are overlapping and there is no background colors. Help
