Notebook stuck in emergency recovery loop

I have a HP Tablet running Windows XP. My AVG Virus Program alerted me that it detected a virus and the screen froze. I shut all programs down using ctrl + alt + del.

I restarted the computer and entered the "press f11 for system recovery", which took me to the HP Backup and Recovery Manager. It gave me three options:
    1. recover PC's original factory installation and backup data.
    2. Recover PC's factory installed operating system, drivers, utilities, and applications.
    3. Backup files.

I have tried both options #1 and #2. I am stuck in a recovery loop. The computer appears to successfully recover backup data and asks to restart, but then gives me only the option to do another emergency recovery.

I have read the relevant posts here, but none of them address my problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Moved to the software forum. Once you can get a successful boot, then we can work with you in the malware forum.

    Awkward when that happens-
    I would suggest ............
When you startup- can you try pressing f8, to se if you can still get into safe mode ?
If you can choose the first option, of safe mode, and wait for the screen to stop scrolling - sometimes takes a while, before actually starting into a basic mode, and giving you a really basic Screen resolution. You could run your Antyvirus software in safe mode to see if it can detect it- then go back to TIMW.HE WILL PROBABLY ASK YOU TO READ AND RUN THE MALWARE SECTION READY RECKONER.....
If you cannot get into safe mode, I would see if I could borrow an XP disc, if you have not got one,-and use it , until it reaches the first repair option- and choose to repair.
    Then, I would type in
FIXBOOT, AT THE FLASHING CURSUR c; prompt, and press ENTER.
    Then type in
    FIXBOOT, and press ENTER.
Then pres exit, and let it restart.
COME VBACK AND LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.

The computer ignores f8 at start up so I can't get to safe mode. The only option is f11 for emergency recovery which keeps me in the loop.

This notebook doesn't have a cd-rom. Is it possible to copy the contents of a windows xp cd to a usb flash drive and start up from that?

It is possible to use a usb stick, but I have noit got around to testing as yet, as I tend to get diverted to other things,.I did see an explanation on majorgeeks, some time ago, but cannot find it, now. I had tried , in the past, unfortunately, unsuccessfully, and do need to try again- but I have links to different methods, -HP do utility to help make a usb bootable, but it does seem a bit of trial and error, and you need the right usb stick, not all of them will be bootable.
I will look up my backups, to try to find as much info on that as I can.
I know technet actually had one ready made somewhere, a while ago, but I will have to come back on it, unless someone else can lead you in that.
I use a usb cd rom when working on tablet type laptops, and I think mine cost me about £20, but I will use it occasionally.
