Every time I run Adaware it comes up with two critical files, both relating to the same application. This is the explanation that Adaware gives:

    "Name:Windows
    Category:Vulnerability
    Object Type:RegData
    Size:15 Bytes
    Location:regfile\shell\open\command "" (notepad.exe %1)
    Last Activity:09-04-2007
    Relevance:Low
    TAC index:3
    Comment:
Description:General Windows Security Issue. Your system security may be compromised. The specifics of the possible compromised item are listed in the comments section."

Is it safe to put this file in the "ignore" list as it pops up every time anyway, regardless that I delete it. I often use Notepad when copying stuff from internet as it does away all the unnecessary ads. I have also had the impression that in some ways it is safer than using Word (especially as I use an unofficial version and cannot therefore get security fixes for it)

    Another question about updates:

I have never had a problem using the "Download updates button" before but for the last two months it has got stuck at 60%. I tried to uninstall (including all backup installation files) and re-install it but it made no difference. I regularly run 3 other spyware programs, which also give negative results. (None of them flags notepad, by the way) I managed to download a zip file from Lavasoft support page, which worked fine but this is a cumbersome way. Running Adaware with updated files, it found no malware, apart from the notepad and MRU files (I always delete those as well). Any ideas how to get the updates working again from within the program?

    Try going here: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

and download and use the REG File Association Fix

Provide the names of the other programs you are referring to. Also indicate whether they are paid programs or trial programs.
