Now, I have Notepad++ and use it for some of my programming. I've been trying to learn how to create macros. However, all I was able to find was information on recording macros. If I have a piece of text already written and want to create a macro out of it without retyping it, how do I do that? I tried to paste from the clipboard while recording a macro, but the pasted text wasn't recorded--just the paste operation. So, how do I do it? BTW, I have v.6.8.3.

I think you would have to keep a file with the text you want to macro in a file. If you create a "database" folder for files for your macros to reference that should work.

Haven't done any macro recording outside of MS Office (other than a mouse control program I tried), but here are some things you can try until someone comes along with experience using Notepad++ this way:

    1. Create a new text file and open the file and highlight the text, then start the macro recording in Notepad++. Right click on the highlighted text and then select copy, then follow that by pasting the information into whatever your macro recorder requires.

    2. Above may only copy and paste highlighted items, rather than the text you want, not sure. If that is the case, you may have to go as far as starting the macro recorder, opening the file containing the text for the macro, and then highlighting the text for the copy and then the paste to finish and complete the macro. This could lead to a situation where the file actually opens when you run the macro, but, if you can edit the macro, you can hide the action, I believe.
