notepad

XP pro - All downloads, some program files, open up in Notepad, I checked the "internet options" made sure word was the default. how do I stop files from defaulting to notepad??? CRAZY thanks for your help in advance

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, then the File Types tab. (You may need to enable Show hidden files and folders in View tab)

Change the association from NotePad to the relevant program, or,

Go to the problem file/s, hold down the Shift key and right-click, select Open With , then choose the relevant program.

If it's not listed use the Browse feature.

Also make sure you check "Always use the selected program to open this type of file".

One way won't work for every file, but one of either method will.
