Hi, (sorry for any protocol errors, I'm totally new here)
My computer (Dell dimension 4550) now wont save any files or programs that I try to down load. I took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they charged me 200 bucks and said they cleaned a virus out. However it now wont save anything like attachments in emails, or programs of any type off the internet. I can save to my desktop via a memory stick, but not via the internet. It displays a download progress bar, but when that closes, nothing is their in the file where it should have saved. true for IE7 and for Firefox both. I'm thinking perhaps it gets downloaded but then just disappears. I've tried several virus scans but they say I don't have one. I took it back to the Geek Squad and they said they want another 200 bucks. I walked out ...
My internet options are all set to default and I tried lowering the security levels but that didn't change the problem. I have something called Hijack this on here that I think the Geek squad put on if that helps?
Oh... the email part... error message says that it can't save attachments, check disk space and try later (outlook express) and Yahoo email will let me download the attachments but poof, no icons or attachments get into the destination folder. Any thoughts most appreciated
Kenny Oh using XP and I have tons of disk space free

If the geek squad calimed you were infected, you might want to start by getting a check up in the malware forum.
    Start here.
I dont know how good Best Buy's geek squad are at malware removal, but I do know that in the MG malware forum they will make sure you are clean.

Thanks, this is so frustrating. I can't download the Major Geeks programs either....
I actually have the Geek Squad's CD, they left one in my computer. I've run it and it shows that I don't have any virus. It shows nothing is wrong. So weird...

Thanks again... So I downloaded the malware removal procedures to a memory stick and got them on this computer and ran them all. I am still having the same problem. Nothing will download and "stick" to this computer. As above, I can use a memory stick, but nothing via the internet. I guess I can attach those log files here (I think?) I think they are attached, (3 of them one more will follow)

Ok cool ... I think that worked, here is the 4th log. I have a hijack this log too if that would help anyone figure this out.
Again the problem is that I can't get anything to stick as it is downloading off the internet. I get a progress bar that says it is downloading but then when done, there is no file anywhere. So I can't download IE7 for instance, or any pictures, or any email attachments...nothing from any website. However, It seems like some programs are able to update (like a couple of the malware removal tools I think seemed to be able to pull it off.
My troubles started when I tried to download a Trend Micro Virus program It went and eliminated all prior system restore points and then screwed up and I couldn't restore to anything earlier. It's been trouble ever since...(couple of months) Geek Squad took $200. from me to devirus it, but it didn't do any good. I am wondering if there is some switch that is keeping programs from transfering from some temp cache to the hard drive????
Anyway dang! Thanks for any help you all can come up with
    Kenny
