Novell 6.5 Server install

Ok, heres one...

IBM 236 Server. 6gig ram, 2 Xeon processors, 3 scsi drives set up with raid 5. No additional cards on the motherboard. Serverraid 6M (highest rev level).

Raid is set up properly. Boot off the novell 6.5 disks, and it begins the install. Install starts, initializes keyboard [ok] initializes debugger [ok]

BAM, intall resets to the point where it begins initializing again. Gets back to the debugger [ok] BAM restarts again...

Continues this cycle.

It will install fine on a standard workstation P4 1.8 1gig ram 40gig HD. so its not the disks.

The only thing I can figure is that its something in the raid setup, but Ive tried raid 0 also and I get the same results.

 

Not sure if this will work for you ... I have only used this technique on Windows based workstations with SATA RAID setup ... but its worth a shot.

1) Install the OS on one HD in a non-raid setup ... get all of the drivers set up.

2) Make an image of the HD using ghost or whatever you prefer.

3) Setup RAID and wipe the HD's.

4) Restore from the image.

Like I said, I never used it in your situation. It always works flawless for me when I have a problem setting up Windows on a RAID.
