I'm running Vista 32-bit service pk-2. I keep getting NSIS error when trying to uninstall McAfee security. Also, error 2738 "can't access VBScript run time for custom action" when uninstalling BlackBerry app. I also tried to reset windows update tool and got the following error "windows script host can't find script engine VBScript for C:\windows\system32\elevate.vbs".
I opened MSconfig and noticed almost half the services there were stopped. I ran the read and run me first tools under the Malware forum and was advised to post here for further assistance. I will appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks much!

The System File Checker repaired 2 files and 2 cannot be repaired.
The latter 2 are the configuration settings file of the Windows Sidebar which has nothing to do with uninstalling a program.
    Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll then press Enter.

I did as requested and got the following "DllRegisterServer in vbscript.dll succeeded"

    So far so good. :)
See if you can uninstall the two programs.

Do you have the Windows Vista disc?

I ran the McAfee removal tool, but McAfee Security Scan Plus still shows up in control panel. However there is no sign of it in the Windows Registry Editor. I tried again to remove it from the control panel, but got the same error msg.
The Blackberry app might be from an android phone my sister once owned, but not sure if the World Browser is associated with that.
No, I don't have the Vista disc. I only have the Gateway Recovery disc 1 & 2, plus the app driver disc 1.

Does McAfee Security Scan Plus show in Programs and Features?

Open File Explorer, Open Program Files. Click on the McAfee Security Scan Plus folder.
    Is it empty?
If so, right click the folder and select delete. Mine pops up a warning about needing administrator privileges. I click okay and the empty folder got moved to the recycle bin.

If it is not empty, list what files are still in there.

I opened the McAfee Security Scan Plus folder as directed and found one folder labeled "3.11.266" plus the McAfee uninstaller file.
I however used the Revo uninstaller as recommended by Eldon, and it worked perfectly. All traces of McAfee and BlackBerry app are gone. Thanks to everyone for all your help.
P.S. Do you think that all those stopped services in "msconfig" might be due to corrupt files? Will doing the repair option with the Windows Vista Disc help repair these files?

    Probably not.
On my Windows 7 PC about 60% of Services are stopped.
Rather use Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Portable.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair_portable.html

Take your time and follow the instructions carefully.
On the Repairs - Main tab, select Preset: Common Repairs.
It's recommended to run the program in "Safe Mode With Networking". Restart and run the program a second time.
