ntfs drive dead hp 1195 media center -

I am new here , but looks like there is much information , perhaps someone
can help

just had this on my HP media center 1195c
when it checked partitions it listed the partition as free space, however
when trying to fix - it came up with this partition is full or damaged

windows cannot continue

a little more ! it did Find the virtual D drive which is where the restore
info from HP lives - That is a Fat partition - so it looks like
only the NTFS partition has the problem - but cannot seem to resolve!

Local computer store/guy replaced drive - said he could not access the old one

I have the old one - and really need to get at some of the data - any suggestions appreciated .

 

i would look around at this thread (about knoppix), i've found it to be very straight forward (there are several screenshots included). also, there are recovery links posted by some of the other members in some of the links referenced.

i'd either put it in an external h/d enclosure, or install it in your comp as a secondary drive. - g/l, sos

the only downside to this is knoppix is almost a 700 mbyte file to be d/l, and then you have to burn the .iso file to a disk.

well,

found a program called file scavenger that actually came up with a bunch of file s on the corrupt disk - lots of bad sectors as well- was able to get an old archive PST file back (not the latest one ) but better than nothing -

found a number of other files as well - no other program I found was able to find anything !

chkdsk /r and chdsk /f bot failed and hung up

Funny thing , each day a run the the Scavenger again I find a few other
files that were not obvious the previous day - I think the drive is really
not well - will keep trying to get more files
