    i had left my computer up over night and when i woke up it had this error on the screen, i have followed several guides and tried chkdsk and replacing the file(replaced it 3 times now) and every time it still gives me the error message any ideas my next step would be repair install

    Hello,
    Could be bad ram. Try removing all of your ram modules except one. If it still does it, replace it with another you removed.

    If that does not solve it, try doing a chkdsk /r from the recovery console if you have an OS install disk.

    both tam look ok and the chkdsk was ran twice only the first time found a few minor problems

    i just restarted to check and still getting the error any help would be most apprecieted

    full error states

    "windows could not start because the following file is missing
    or corrupt:
    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

    you can attemp to repair this file by starting windows setup
    using the original setup cd-rom
    select "r" at the first screen to start repair"

    also if it matters im running xp home sp3 and have repair council already installed and the disc i had was xp pro only if someone has a home disc and can rip the ntfs.sys file from it and up load it i might be able to get my system to work tyvm for any help

    Hello,
    I misread the post. Still asleep. :-o I thought you had XP pro. As far as I know, they are the same. If you want, I can still get the Version from XP home if you wish.

    Edit: I can confirm they are identical between home and pro. Do you still need the file?

    If you are going to do a repair install you are going to need an XP home CD. Cannot use a PRO disk. You mentioned a power outage. This could have also caused hardware problems.
