No other way. Even hacked/modded bios lets you set it up. What's the mobo make & model?

May want to go to the manufacturers website and get the specs on the BIOS settings.

Install this & you'll know your pc.

In bios, look for boot menu, in the submenu, look for priority/order, in this menu, change the order to this:

    FLOPPY
    CD/DVD
    HDD

Hit F10 or exit & save.

Follow the link above to rescue the file. If that's hard, just do a repair xp install. it'll install the missing file.

Is this a USB keyboard or ps2 keyboard?

What make and model is this computer?

Typical ways to access the bios are: F1, del, and F10. Since you already tried all the function keys, try del.

The key that gets you to your bious could be F1, F2, F10, or even the Delete key. It is usually displayed on the computer screen at power on. If not consult the documentation for your computer.

@Kniht - Please do not link to off-site information when that information is already available on Major Geeks.

Have you done the procedures in this thread?

If so, then it could be a boot sector problem. Specifically a MFT fragmentation problem. You'll need to contact MS as per this article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320397/en-us

Woops. Didn't see it in the rules where one couldn't do that. Of course, still picking shrapnel from my body from the Nam war. Interferes with my eyesight.
