    Good Evening

I have a compaq presario CQ57. Recently it has started not booting up. This happened occasionally to begin with. But recently this issue has developed.

On pressing power button the CD drive would whir and then the caps lock light would flash. On three occasions it booted into a HP bios update. This happened three times over two days.

I rang HP support as the laptop is still within one year warranty. They checked MSCONFIG and found that a large number of MS services have been stopped. They suspect that the laptop had been hijacked. Having some basic experience resolving PC issues I thought I would run malware / virus programs to check for problems.

I have the firewall turned on and I have a schedule scan run every start up by AVG.

Yesterday I ran the following programs - all came back with no threats.

    - Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool
    - Microsoft Defender
    - Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser
    - Spybot s&d
    - Advanced System Care 5
    - AVG 2012
    - AVG PC Tune-up
    - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    - Ad Aware

In MSCONFIG the services are still stopped.

Today the laptop turned on first go without any problems but in MSCONFIG the Windows services are still stopped.

I have further researched for recommended tools and run the following programs - but no threats found and the MS Services are still stopped - I have checked after each program has been run.

    - Microsoft Security Essentials
    - Trend Housecall
    - Trend Hijack This
    - CCleaner.

Again all came back clear but in MSCONFIG there are still a whole host of services which are stopped. Laptop has booted fully everytime tried today. :confused

I have still been searching for resolution and then I came across the Malware Instructions on MajorGeeks and have followed the instructions. Please see attached logs.

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Sandi

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You are not having malware problems. Your logs are clean.

Also your logs do not show anything stopped in MSConfig so I'm not sure what you mean anyway.
