OK so curiosity got the better of me, and i decided to read this thread through in its entirety
unfortunately i allowed myself to become personally involved, which ill offer my apologies to anyone as i like to think I'm more mature than that :)
The reasons for my behavior were down to the contemptuous attitude displayed by Mastertech, answering posts with comments such as Idiotic, Ludicrous etc and a complete refusal to accept a differing point of view
Reading through at least 4 different members of this forum have disagreed with you MT and offered personal experience of older drivers working better with older hardware, yes newer drivers offer more optimization yet with lower overall performance, i can vouch for this on a personal level and have offered to display some results and i can link to numerous threads all over the internet where higher performance can be had by using older drivers
Obviously as newer games come out the effects may be less noticeable, but thats life and most people using older hardware will need to upgrade their cards to meet future game requirements therefore the need to use older drivers would no longer be there
However my point was that i can score consistently higher frame rates with my Geforce 4TI using drivers from the 40.xx series than i can with any of the forceware drivers which are more geared to optimization of Geforce FX cards, i am in no way suggesting using older drivers as the norm just offering an alternative for someone using older hardware, what you need to understand is a lot of people myself included like to push things as far as we possibly can, you may be happy playing safe and running everything by the book however there are millions of people who do not
What a boring world this would be if everyone and everything was the same, its in mans nature to want to be BIGGER,BETTER and FASTER than our neighbor, this applies to everything in life cars, stereos, PCs, hell even the size of our manhood, if you have 100 PCs exactly the same yet we can bench higher than all the others, we wear this like a badge of Honor
Now if it means using older drivers or overclocking so be it, whatever it takes man, to get the job done ;)

I will take issue with one of your oft repeated sayings that you will only listen to the people who program software and manufacture hardware, now thats all very well but if you truly believed this you would use everything straight out of the box as obviously once a product is released its considered a finished product, therefore requiring no further tweaking from yourself yet you pimp your optimize XP website, in which you suggest Xp is not very well optimized am i therefore supposed to understand that you know more that the programmers and developers from Microsoft. No i think it just goes to show that you want the best performance you can, which is no different from someone who uses older drivers or overclocks is it not?

Sorry if this is a long read, Mastertech all I'm asking is that you be prepared to accept that whats good for one may not be good for another, you could end this thread now if you just respect other peoples opinion whether you agree with it or not, rather than being so dismissive, I'm sure under that arrogant front of yours theres a nice guy trying to get out :)

Also on a side note this information has been passed to me.. there is a video on THG that shows an Intel expo where they are pimping the Prescott core.. and they're overclocking it, still i guess they dont know what they are talking about ;)

Oh and BTW, my older nVidia card works better with the 44.xx, 45.xx 'buggy' drivers.
