    Hey guys,

I just put together a spare computer I want to use for running a server. I don't want to spend any money on a monitor since it's purely a server machine.

Here's the problem. When I don't install the nVidia driver, it'll run fine in 640x480 -32bit on my crappy old spare 14" Daytek monitor. Once I install the driver, it'll go all fussy and blurry and it'll just be a whole mess of colours. I assume that's because the nVidia driver is constantly running at a min of 800x600 correct? My monitor supports only 640x480. I'm not sure if this is the case as I can't see anything on the screen once the nVidia driver is installed. However, my question is, is there a way to use the nVidia driver and force it to run at 640x480?

BTW, the vid card is GeForce 2 MX400 AGP, running XP.

I know this is a ghetto setup, my other machine is a 21 incher w/ a GeForce 6800 Ultra OC :)

    Thanks a bunch,

    Bry

The nvidia driver works fine 640x480 if your monitor didnt support it you would'n see anything,my 5700 and gf2 both do on my TV,I'd try an older driver since your card is old but if its just a server and its at the max res,why not leave it?

Actually it doesn't seem to work in 640x480 mode. I tested this PC on my 21" monitor. It works fine w/ no driver, w/ the driver the minimal setting is 800x600. It could possibly be that older drivers have the 640x480 setting, any idea where I Can get old drivers?

Why would you want to install graphic drivers on a purely server machine?

Well, couldn't hurt? I mean, at least the video card could work properly. It runs very chopy and the fonts don't look smooth. If I ever need to use the dreaded 14" monitor for anything, I at least want to be able to view things properly.

Although it is mainly a server, I do occasionally use it to play music, view videos and pictures, etc.

It might not show up on the slider in dislay properties, which I think is where you are looking you need to go to Desktop-right click-settings-advanced-click your dislay adapter tab-the click screen resolutions and refresh rates there should be an option on that slider. :)

I think you can set it on your good monitor then plug your old one in and it should be in 640x480.Forgot to mention that.
