    Hi,
my mil has a compaq running xp. she asked me to install a HP wireless printer last night. should have been plug and play but it didn't work.

when the machine was booted it said there was an issue with
    "Windows\systems32\drngetf.ddl"

I have tried to google this dll but it's not returned anything..

does this dll ring a bell with anything?

    Greetings, Rykard...

What operating system version and Service Pack # is the problem machine running, and what's the printer model #?

Also, double-check the spelling of that .dll file - most Windows .dlls are known, so it's kind of weird that it's not showing up in searches.

    have requested the details above...

I googled the dll last night and didn't get anything which was why i asked the mil to get it again this morning as it was late and I thought I may have mistyped it last night...

Good enough - just post everything when you get the info. Also: are there any other symptoms and/or problems with the computer? And does the printer work when hard-wired to the computer?

the computer doesn't recognise the printer at all via usb - i tried it in the 3 available slots but nothing...which i thought was kinda strange...

her gs 'had it working' last weekend... and now it doesn't... I have suggested they uninstall all the hp ware and start again....

as soon as i have more details I will post them up...

The fact that the printer will not communicate either wirelessly or via USB leads me to believe that either something's wrong with the printer or that there is a driver problem.

You might have them try to uninstall the HP software, run Driver Sweeper (make sure to opt out of any search engine/toolbar options during the program installation) to thoroughly clean any driver traces, and reinstall the Deskjet package.

You could also try to install the printer on another computer to see if the symptoms are duplicated.

    cheers,
have suggested that gs uninstalls everything at the weekend and starts again.. if it's still an issue I will go over one day next week when i have a bit more time (not 10 at night lol)

Yeah, the HP printer software has given me fits in the past. Sometimes it takes two or three installations to get everything ironed out.

One more suggestion: HP offers two different packages - a stripped-down 'driver only' and the complete suite with all the bells and whistles. Grab both and try each one - sometimes HP is counter-intuitive with their packaging and the 'full package' will have better drivers than the 'driver only'. :confused

Good luck - let us know how it goes.
