office 07 and office 03

I take it that when you open an Office doc they actually open in Office 2003 as Office 2007 is fully removed?

If the doc was originally saved as Office 2007 .docx for word as example as 2007 default formats add an x to the extention, you need to resave them in Office 2003 as Office 97 > 2003 format.

Otherwise the Office compatability pack in Office 2003 will open them but convert them to allow editing but re-save them when closed as 2007 format.

When you start Word from the Start menu list, the splash screen that pops up first mentions what Office version?

Right click one of your documents that comes up as Office 2007 and choose properties, then next to Type of File what is in the brackets at the end say on a Word doc, is it (.doc) or (.docx)?




Not noticed Office 2007 automatically re-installing itself, but run the below steps, to completly uninstall Office 2007 and 2003 if installed, BTW did you uninstall Office 2007 via the Add/Remove list?

Go into Add/Remove and find Office 2007 install and uninstall, then once uninstalled, download and run this Windows Installer Cleanup tool and once run look down list and remove anything Office 2007 related (only Office 2007 mentioned applications as this is powerful tool) Office apps will look like mine in this screenshot, but may not mention MUI in yours, depending on version as mine is Enterprise Office.

Then download and run CCleaner and run both the Cleaner and Registry options, run the Cleaner once (will have to re-log into any website you automatically log into once opened as it removed cookies) and run the Registry cleaner a few times until nothing is found, do backup what it is removing when prompted.

Then Uninstall Office 2003 and run the same steps as above, then reboot and re-install Office 2003, hopefully this should clear Office 2007 and only open Office 2003 up, if any files where originally created in Office 2007, then will open up in Office 2003, but will be in compatability mode (as Office 2003 needs or part of updates installs the compatability pack), so you will have to convert them by opening each of the files and using Office 2003 click Save As then choose Office 97~2003 Format.
