Office 2000 question

My wife was setting up a database in Access this morning when it came up saying it needed something additional installed.
I browsed to the CD and found the file it was looking for.
After clicking OK, I get the following error message:

Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product microsoft office 2000 professional. The windows installer cannot continue.

What has happened here? How do I go about fixing this problem?
