Office 2007 not working properly.

I downloaded and installed KingSoft Office WPS 2013 free edition a few weeks ago to try out.

Since then my MS Office 2007 has not been working correct. Every time I open a word document using Office it starts configuring itself for a reinstall. I cancel the configuration and the install application starts up. It is then that my word doc opens.

I do not want to reinstall Office for a number of reasons. How do I fix this problem?

My system is Win 7 64 bit.

Have you tried running the repair feature from Programs and Features in Control Panel.? Right click on the program name and go with the option to change and that will make it possible for you to see the option to repair.

OK, this might sound weird, but it has worked twice that I know of. Go to the Adobe Flash site and download and install the most recent flash. See if that fixes the problem. If not try a reboot and then check. Adobe also has Shockwave. Try installing the most recent version of that if the Flash installation doesn't work. Try a reboot with that too. Watch out to make sure you uncheck the extra programs on the download page for Flash and Shockwave, so you won't get those too.

Office has some flash elements, and I believe a missing reference to Flash...like Kingsoft being listed as your default office software with Flash instead of MS Office...apparently can cause this problem. The idea is 2 for 2 so far, so maybe it will work for you.

    Hi AltBo,

Here's what I've done so far.

    1. Uninstalled Adobe Flash Active X. Reinstalled, and restarted laptop. No luck.
    2. Uninstalled Flash NPAPI. Reinstalled and restarted laptop. Did not work.
    3. Uninstalled Adobe Reader. Reinstalled Reader, along with ShockWave (I did not see Shockwave in the control panel, and I guess, I never had it.) Restarted laptop. But still MS Office word documents go into configuration process instead of directly starting.

So, what next? We'll have to make the score 2/3.
    Thanks.

PS: I read in some thread on Majorgeeks that we need only Flash or Shockwave, and not both running on a PC at the same time. Is this correct?

    Yes, you can remove Shockwave...

Starting with some facts. Did you remove Kingsoft? Do you have the disk to reinstall Office? As for Office...will any of the programs open if you go to the program's installation folder and click on that icon?

Thinking about this some more. Can you System Restore to a point before you installed KingSoft?

In a post on the MS Answers board:

Here is the thread. Seems to have worked sufficiently for several who had this problem:

    Altbo Hi,

I changed the SETUP. EXE file name to SETUP1.EXE as suggested in the thread you mentioned above.

Presto, it works like magic. The word docs open instantly, without the Install dialog box appearing.
I was seriously considering a reinstall of Office, since I am a writer, and use Word a lot. After this I won't have to uninstall anything or fiddle around with Office, which I hate doing. Thanks for the excellent suggestion.

Also, to answer your questions: I didn't have a system restore point that would be valid.
All the other Office programs were opening without problem. The trouble was only with Word.
I had not uninstalled WPS in hope I might try to find a solution first. (WPS is a nifty alternative to Office, and I wanted to give it a longer try.)

    Once again thanks AltBo.

    Raphee...

Glad that worked for you and thanks for posting back. With Office seems like there is always some kind of workaround for any little problem that pops up. I guess that there are so many users helps find the tricks, although finding them is not easy with many of them. They can be a little bit intimidating to try, sometimes, especially with all the registry hacks people recommend and so on.

    :)
