    My girlfriend's problem:

She goes to Office Updates, and it says she needs to update, but she needs to do "admin updates", and she becomes lost after that.

Word, Excel, and Outlook came from her Small Business disk, while everything else came from the Professional disk.

Originally, I pointed her to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307783&Product=offxp but she said it doesn't work because she doesn't know what path to put it in.

Usually, I would help her further, but I'm unable to be at her computer with her today, and she needs things fixed right away.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hey, S!

I can't figure out exactly what it is you want us to tell you (or her) about.

I've got Office XP, but I've never seen the "admin updates" thing, so I don't know what that's all about. Can't she just accept all of the offered updates and let it go at that? That's what 99% of users do. It's only the geeks who pick and choose and figure out what we're doing and what MS is doing (sometimes!).

I'd like to help, but I need some more info about what's needed here.

Admin updates are not for stand-alone computers.
    From your linked page:
"When Microsoft Office issues a service release, two separate versions of the update are made available. One version is for updating administrative installation points, and the other is for updating stand-alone computers. This article describes how to apply an update to an administrative installation point."

I don't think that the fact that she has some SBE files makes any diff. If she just accepts and install all of the critical updates for a standalone and ignores the "admin updates" thing, will that work?

She also may need both cd's to do the update. If she "borrowed a cd" the install will not work....

Generally the software that needs an Admin update route are corporate versions..........

The last time I did an admin install was a fair while ago and with works PCs I didnt need the disks as office was already on the network in a Office Admin install folder ( basically the whole of the office install package is on your HD rather than disks ) I just needed to add SP2 too it.

From what I remember ( I would have to look for my notes ) if you dont have the Office Admin install folder on the HD around 700mb worth, you WILL possibly need all the CDs used to create the admin install folder.

Also she will need the product key...... IF you have the disks and the product key AND the Admins/Mods are ok with me giving you the instructions I will do but as I wont be at a PC until tomorrow unless someone else may know the commands to create a Admin Install point and the correct path instructions for the update.
