I followed the "Read and Run Me First" tutorial and I'm going to guess there is something seriously wrong with my PC.

SuperAntiSpyware: wouldn't let me run it, even after changing the file name and folder, it gave me the same error that "SuperAntiSpyware.exe is not a valid Win32 application".

MalwareBytes ran just fine, I will attach the log below.

ComboFix: won't let me run it, gives me the same warning about it not being a valid Win32 application.

RootRepeal went quickly, I will also attach the log I got below.

MGTools: also wouldn't let me run it, giving me another warning of it also not being a valid Win32 application.

Now I just don't know what to do next! I'm at a loss and very frustrated that my PC could be this badly off. I would appreciate ANY help. Thanks so much in advance for your information!

Download and save the below to your PC (save it anywhere you can find it. The Desktop is fine). Then double click on it to run it.

    AVPFind.bat

It should take a couple minutes to run. You will see a black command prompt window while it is running and it should close when it is finished. Once it finishes, attach the avplog.txt file that is will hopefully be created on your Desktop as long as the malware does not block the batch file from running.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif

    * Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
    * If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
    * A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
    * If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
    * If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
    * Do not reboot until instructed.
    * If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor

    • Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the log.txt file to your next message.

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

If you already have them installed, be sure to update Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware before the scan!

Now run this: Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Now run this: SUPERAntiSpyware - running & getting a log

    Now run this: Using MGtools

Now you need to attach the below logs created while running the above scans

    • exeHelper log
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    • MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

The AVPFind.bat and all 4 of the rkill files gave me that same exact warning that they are "not valid Win32 applications". I even thought I would try the exehelper you suggested for after I got them to run and it received the same message. It seems I have some nasty problems on this PC :(

Thanks again for your help, you've been so quick and patient.

Rename all .exe files for all the scans to .com and tell me if they run.

    Now try this:
Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The red is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

See if you can get me some logs.

I think I may have figured out part of the problem why none of these programs will run: I can't seem to download anything. I just noticed that when the file saves, it has 0 bytes. If I right click to save an image into My Pictures, it shows me that it's there at 0 bytes and when I click on it to view it, it tells me "Photo Gallery can't display this picture because it is an empty file". Any idea on how I may be able to fix this so we can possibly move ahead with the rest of this problem?

I honestly cannot thank you enough for the time and effort you've put forth to help me. If we can get this fixed, I will be beyond thrilled.

So my overtired brain got to thinking and I created another User Account and was able to download all the programs and run them. Attached are the logs and I'll await further instructions :)

You have MGTools.exe in the wrong place:
c:\program files\MGtools.exe --> slide it out of the program files folder and directly onto your C:\ drive so it is here:
C:\MGTools.exe .....double click it and allow it to run. Then attach the C:\MGLogs.zip.

Thanks Tim, I'm not sure why that was in there as when I just went to check it was on my C drive. Meh, who knows anymore :) Here is the MG Log, it's actually seeming like my PC might be clean now?

However, I still don't know why we can't download from the other user account, very bizarre as I can't seem to find any info on that.

Please attach the C:\MGLogs.zip....not a HJT log.

Your logs for this user account are clean. Can you not run the scans on the other account still?

The problem seems to be that I cannot download the programs to my PC to run them, hence why I was getting the error of the program not being valid. The icon for the program would show up but it would be a 0 byte program and not really there. If I click on something to download, it asks me where I want to save the file and seems as though I've saved it but then the program is not really there. The same goes for if I try to save an image off the internet by right clicking: the image appears to download and shows me an icon with the title in the folder but it's a 0 byte file and won't allow me to open it as it's not really there. Have you heard of a problem such as this before?

Thanks so much Tim, you've been so helpful so far!

Frankly I don't, but that is because I am chained up in the malware forum all day.....LOL.

This sounds like the user account is somehow corrupt. My suggestion would be to transfer files and data from the bad account to your new account and then remove the old user account. Maybe create another account that is a limited one just to use when surfing the net or doing everyday tasks.

    And you are most welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to tahe cleaning procedures ian step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
      a
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
