Oh man, Am I glad I went back to school..

I just read a document (because I'm the IT guy, I had to fix it) that pretty much says that I have 1 one year left on this contract. That's all I can say.. but that's bad news for me, and bad news for my employer. If this contract ends, I get the boot because they have no other clients and I'm the highest paid person there.

I couldn't have picked a better time to go to back to college.

if it weren't for the contract I am on now, they would have let me go. The primary reason was because I didn't want to take the stupid MSCE tests. I wanted to open up a web dev section in the company and they wanted nothing to do with it. I didn't have much of a choice though so I said I'd take the crappy glorified tech job.

Tested out of 3 classes and 2 classes transferred over so I'm already 21% done with school I'll have 2 more classes knocked out in 2 1/2 months and I'm going to test out of ASP and maybe try to test out of VB6 GUI programming. I haven't ued VB6, so I may take it just for the experience.

 

You could discretely offer your company's clients your sevices, that is if you or they don't have a non-compete clause in the contract. Consulting contracts have so much overhead that it may save them money and get you a better pay.

 

Helping out and going above and beyond for your client in such a manner that they'll remember your name more than your companies' goes along way too.

 

The client is the one that has the potential of closing, not my employer. So offering my services to the client is a moot point . Not that I would want to work for them anyway on any solo contract. There are other factors I can't discuss as to why.

 

At least you know about it and are planning for it. All too many don't know anything until the pink slip shows up.
