Thought the Do-Si-Dos was somesort of Line Dance step

Why oh why do we see the need to change the name of stuff all the time, we have many a chocolate product ( you all call candy ) with name changes to please others,

    Opel Fruits became Starburst
Marathon became Snicker ( now sounds like some old worn out trainer/sneaker and tastes like one too, used to love them and had one the other day.. eeek *insert puke smilie here* )

    :)

oh and we dont have anythinkg like that around these parts that I know of.. we have Girl Guides/Scouts but they dont do the door to door thing.

Girl Scout cookies are called different things depending on which bakery they come from (there are two). Why I know that is beyond me. ;)

Caramel Delights, Shortbread, and the lemon ones are my favourites.

But alas, for I don't know any girl scouts any more, they've all either grown up or moved away. :(

  12. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Yes...as in "ding dong" ...they sell everything nowadays...but not Twix ;) Nor GS cookies :p

Pop bought two boxes of those damned things, two different peanut butter cookies, including the do-si-do`s. Ate every last one himself lmao. I don`t DO cookies...unless LuLu makes them....you know...being the doting you-know-what. Richard, of course, would eat cookies till he was ill. heh heh heh.

When my girls were younger, we sold girl scout cookies til we were blue in the face and then ate the left-overs til we got toxic.

Dayum, those were good. But I haven't got any GS in the neighborhood now and haven't eaten one for over 10 years. Boo - hoo.

Twinkies are the Devil's own invention.

I am sooooooooooooooooo jealous. Ours won't be in until March.
We order at least 10 boxes. I order from people at work, hubby does, too. Kids order from other kids at school.
My favorite is peanut butter patties. I dislike coconut, so don't like those, but everyone else here loves them. Mints come in a close second to everyone.

I hate people ringing my door bell to sell me things, regardless of how old they are.

Luckily, Girls Scouts don't do the door to door thing here.

I just have to put up with Jehovah's Witnesses and Real Estate Agents, which my dogs love chasing.

The worst one is that fool selling Home Icecream and ringing his bloody truck bell every Saturday at noon.

If I ever catch that idiot........

rut roh...started a thread and got so busy I forgot about it:eek: But I'm so glad to see so many replied!:)

My granddaughter in NY sells GS cookies but Chris has a co-workers daughter who hits him up twice a year too. Beth if you want GS cookies let me know and next time we get the word I can order some for you and mail them to you.:)

Chris bought the shortbread & peanut butter ones this time. I used to buy the mint ones and keep them in the freezer until I was ready to eat them. Yummy! So good like that!

My favorites in order of preference....

    1) Peanut butter sandwiches (I refuse to call them do-si-dos...got to be the stupidest name in the world!!!!)

    2) Tagalongs

    3) Thin Mints

When I lived in southern illinois...they were just getting up 2.50-3.00 dollars (depending on what troop you bought from) a box...then when I moved to the chicago area, about four years ago...I ordered for the first time and thought I was going to have a stroke...$4.00/box!!!!

What Do-Si-Dos a stupid name, think Tagalongs gives it a close call their Roger in the stupid names race ;)

BTW... what the hell flavor ( see I learning the lingo :) ) are these Tagalongs?

  26. rogvalcox

    rogvalcox MajorGeek

It's acookie wafer of some sort eith a thin layer of peanut butter, then completely coated in chocolate. Kind of like a Twix without the caramel, only round.

And you're right about the name for Tagalongs!! It's just that I've always loved the peanut butter sandwiches from the day I was old enough to know what a girl scout cookie was, so I learned it as the original name, then they go and change it to something stupid like...do-si-dos!! The Tagalongs, on the other hand...I've always known them as tagalongs, so it's not quite as bad!! LOL

But I have to agree with you...when you sit down and think about it...there both pretty stupid!!!!

Tagalongs are called "peanut butter patties" here. I'm not sure that's better. ;)

They sure do. My son loves PBNJ sandwiches. Made him some for school one day, along with my salad sandwiches and my husbands meat ones. Packed the kids off to school, and took myself to work. Came to lunchtime...soooo hungry......grabbed my lunch box and tore into a sandwich....only to find my son had picked up my lunch box by mistake and I now had a mouth full of PBNJ. Ewwwww....much grossness :(

In Australia, thongs are what Americans call "flip flops".

I've got mine on right now. I even go out with them on. :)

  42. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

Americans call them thongs too...Brits call them flip flops, as I found out when my husband said walking through the store in a loud voice "oh you have thongs on" much to my embarrassment, until I realized he meant my footwear!

  43. Insomniac

    Huh?

I've never heard them referred to as thongs by an American, only flip flops.

    Well, no I haven't.

All I've heard is you say it is.

Every TV show where it was mentioned, they were referring to G-Strings, and used the term "flip flops" for thongs.

    TV never lies. :)

  47. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

I don't exactly make a habit of it either........

  48. Insomniac

Nobody said you did, so don't play the victim.

The line "TV never lies" is a Simpson (Homer) saying, hence the smilie.

Anyway, back to the subject as you have aroused my curiosity.

If the term is so widely used, how come I've never heard it mentioned, ever. In fact, quite the opposite?

  49. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

I've never heard flip-flops referred to as "thongs" by Americans, either.

"Thong" has always been either a long piece of thin leather, or underwear.

*When I was a kid, we used to call flip-flops "cloppers" because of the sound they made when you walk. :D

  50. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

I was not playing the victim..not my style. A smilie is not indicative of a Homer Simpson quotation.

I find your constant accusative, arrogant and shock-tactic approach to postings is getting very old, very fast. For the peace of the good people here at MGs I shall not be responding to your future posts. Equally, keep out of threads instigated by me and do not respond to my postings within other people's threads.
