A bit on a tangent... Up until the time right before covid, I've never, ever had marijuana or any other illegal drug in my life. Never, ever been drunk either. Just don't like the thought of 'losing control'. But just before covid, I got to thinking... all the stuff I read about hallucinations, trips... I really should experience them, even if just once, and not die a 'drug virgin'!

Well, since I was only going to do this one time - my final two contenders were LSD vs. mushrooms. I chose the former. Of course, I have nothing else to compare with, but my LSD trip was pretty underwhelming. I think a big part was my own uptightness - not wanting to 'let go'.

But back to topic... didn't heroin and amphetamines both start out as 'medical treatment options' that then got out of hand?

BTW Many years ago (pre Ash Wednesday) I used to live at Cockatoo (near Gembrook) and it is in a heavily forested area and every late summer and through autumn the police quadrupled their effort stopping and searching vehicles. They were looking for people coming out of the forest with magic mushrooms that they had picked. They then charged them with possession and also for taking fauna from a national park if they had a really large amount they would be charged with drug trafficking. The space cadets got around the police effort by going to the best areas late at night with armed with a master key for the locks on the gates (large bolt cutters lol) and spotlights and police scanners. It is anyone's guess how much they got but I know the funghi were prolific and if the weather was ideal then they would resprout several times during the growing season.
The Bunyip State Forrest is about 65 square miles in size and surrounding the state forest are about 100 square miles of heavily forested rural areas also containing the target funghi.

These are the three main species the space cadets go after as they have strong psychoactive and hallucinogenic compounds and with correct handling are supposedly less poisonous :eek::rolleyes:
magic mushrooms or native golden tops

    This reminds me...
In 1948 Warfarin was first registered as a rodenticide.

And it is still used here in Australia for many of the cheap home handyman type rodenticide offerings though in this modern age these poisons are now becoming much more prevalent:-
brodifacoum, difenacoum, bromadiolone and flocoumafen.....mind you, several of these are restricted only to professional pest control companies with government issued safe use poisons certificates which then enables the poisons to be used in much higher concentrations.
My house on half an acre backs onto open farmland and so we have problems with large numbers of mice looking for a warm home so last year I had pest control come and install a dozen locked "pet safe" bait stations with some wax slugs containing high concentration brodifacoum and a secret mouse and rat attractant. Worked in about 5 days and problem gone for another year :)
Works much better than stuffing around with mouse traps for weeks on end and still being unsuccessful ;)
