Sorry for all the truck surveys but I am trying to find something relatively fast. Paper has 2005 Dodge 1500 quad cab, 4.7v8, ac , power everything, 16" wheels, cd player for 17,885 if you finance thru chrysler, +tax, blah blah blah. So basically a new truck for under 20 bills. I think they also come with a 7yr/70k warranty. 15 to choose from.

My daily commute is about 25 miles roundtrip.

I know, probably not as cool as a toyota, but I can't touch a new toyota tundra for under 23 grand.

The Dodge wouldnt' have cool rims or anything, but that can be added down the road. Stereo will probably go immediately.

I need serious opinions guys. Thanks.

I would beware of a loss leader price to only have you come in and finance. It could have a balloon payment at the end.

Some of the rental car companies have these in their fleets......

I would still look for a Toyota..... ;)

that's exactly what I thought when I saw his quote. They wow you with low payments and then WHAMO! last payment is like 5 bills.

Thanks guys. I found a 2001 Toyota Tundra 2wd TRD package with 39k on it. Gonna call and make an offer today. They want 21,999, Im thinking more like 17500 out the door :D Really clean truck, new tires, silver metallic paint, yeah this feels like the one. Just gotta haggle it out and go immediately to best buy and replace the stereo LOL>

    Baloon payments on cars?

    Holy crap!

I didn't know they did that.

As for Dodge vs. Toyota...I thought you wanted reliability too? ;)

I hate Toyota. Hate them with a passion. They are overpriced and overly bland vehicles.

However, two things you can't deny about them.

They are reliable and their vehicles retain their values better than most.

well, the toyota gets better gas millage for sure. Your going to be spending more money for gas inthe dodge so in the long run the toyota is cheaper

Not considering the dodge anymore. It was ranked lowest on everyones tests. Gonna call the toyota certified dude today and schedule a test drive on the 01. If its clean, had the break mod done, and will meet my price then its a done deal.

Found another one at a different dealer today. Just talked to him over th ephone. Break mod wasn't done. He said they got a service release for these trucks, it says if the customer complains bout problems with the brakes , here are some solutions for the problem. But it looks like the owner had no problems so the brake mod wasn't done to the best of his knowledge. I guess he pulled the toyota service record for the vehicle.

Its black, 2000 access cab, 4.7, 2wd, Pwer doors, locks, ac, standard stuff not TRD, 53K miles for 16,750. I haven't seen it yet but may check it out this afternoon. I wish someone here could do a vehicle check for me. I have the VIN number :D

Well, just drove the truck. Its pretty nice, needs a front end alignment, shimmys on the freeway. Brakes are freaking touchy as well. Gonna talk it over with the wife and hopefully have a mechanic buddy look at it tomorrow sometime. It was a completely different ballgame from the truck I drive now LOL.

Another truck thread, oh my! :) j/k

Ok, on a serious note though, I remember seeing the base model Toyota Tundras going for dirt cheap not too long ago. If you're looking for a truck with good gas economy & to get from point "A" to "B," it would definitely fit in your budget. G'luck.

Shimmy on highway, most likely wheel balance. Could also be a separated or out of round tire, or tires cupping. Could also be worn ball joints or other front end components. Also don't overlook driveshaft "U"joints, more of a vibration than shimmy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully I can get it up on the rack here at work and have the toyota certified students to look at it.

Im thinking the shocks may be toast as well, they are probably original. Wonder if I can replace them with billstiens(sp?)? I think that's what the TRD models have. I also wonder how much difference there is suspension wise between a regular sr5 and a sr5 TRD. Anyone know?
