There are Two old .reg files in the C: root that I would like to delete.

I don't know the origin or purpose of these files. :confused

    BLShklm.reg 39,875 KB 2006-05-16
    BLShkcu.reg 10,302 KB 2006-05-16

Can someone tell me where these may have come from and if they are safe to delete?

    Thanks.

Open them in Notepad and check, they look like old registry backups, perhaps created during a malware cleanup.

They should be safe to delete but it might pay to find out what they are first.

    Thanks satrow.

    They do look like backups.
Don't know what the BLS prefix stands for.

They appear to be those two branches exported in their entirety.
    (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_CURRENT_USER)

I can't see what purpose they would server and I certainly won't merge them back into the registry.

Wanted to check before wiping them.

Looks like they were pre-removal backups by a malware removal tool or scanner (to which the BLS presumably refers), which could have been re-merged/checked for differences should any removal have gone wrong. In a properly structured removal/cleanup routine, such as that run here by Chas and the malware team, residuals like these would probably have been removed once the machine had been given the all-clear.
