Yep, been through the 'Jungle Jane' and 'Phantomette' stage (as has Gary (G.T.). Moving on to...Hell knows what, but moving along anyway.
My state of mind has much to be desired at times, but such is life in the jungle, I guess.

You poor guys, why is it the nice people attract the wrong types? Sometimes it seems you don't even appreciate what's under your nose and other times you just don't know when to get out. Oh, well such is human nature I guess. Anyhow, I think it's better to be on your own than in a doomed relationship.

Injury to one's body is different to the hurt to our minds. You can come to terms with something physical but may never get over mental hurts. One of the reasons these boards are so wonderful, we can just "be", how much or how little you want to reveal is up to you.
And governments. No politics. Governments suck.

 

Thanks a lot Kiwi But I at the end of the day I would rather remember how people who were close to me have lived, rather than how they died, or what could have, and should have been.

The Lord still blesses me abundantly, to which I am grateful. Just try to be of maximum benefit to self, family, nation, and society. Not because I am a "great guy", but because it's better to be that way than not.

Looking forward has always been the way I live, I don't wish for tomorrow, I enjoy the moment. My kids have taught me that, too often I turn around and wow, son has grown another few inches and hello, daughter has done the same. I now look up to my kids to talk to them, it helps me to remember never to talk down to them. I am thankful for my blessings and I also know that God will never give you more than you can handle. I have deep admiration for the dignity and kindness that my online friends show to each other and their real families. In spite of all the kidding, this place has a very good heart.

 

Ugh, I've been thru enough of those.

(shrug) I'm not soured on women or marriage, just because my marriage was miserable. Generallizing from insufficient data is not one of my tendencies. Eventually I'll probably find somebody I just can't live without, and do my best to sweep her off her feet. Or at least tackle her in the aisle. But I've always been content with my own company, and don't feel any burning need to fill a hole in my life. For all guys, sex and female companionship are part of their drive. But as we get older, that drive is not as overwhelming and compelling as when we were younger. A LOT of older men get remarried simply because they can't stand being alone. That one doesn't tug on me very hard. (shrug) Eventually...

No argument here. DCFS horror stories crop up all to frequently. Phantom's wife was seriously injured, the State stepped in to "help" her, and Phantom fought for the right to care for both his wife, and his kids. For years. At the State Department level. He's not an Aussie native; he even tried to get them out of the country. And crooked politicians kept him from them. Last time he mentioned, he was still married, although I think he's fought about all he can. More devotion than most could muster. He's a special case.

 

The saga still goes on to this day. I haven't said much about it in the last couple years, because basically it would serve no purpose.

Suffice to say the 'Matters', are still pending before the full bench of the High Court of Australia, the U.S. Embassy, and the U.N. Human Rights Commission (No kidding, I've only recently found out about that one!). Apparently anyone can put their case before The Governor General and the Crown, and the case must, as a matter of 'Common Law' be heard and processed. (Tell that to the bleeding hearts that want a Republic.)

I'm pretty much burnt out by it all and just basically try working it to death.



P.S:- Wanna know another silly exercise in futility I did a while back? I wrote a letter to the Pope (no kidding!). Everyone thought I was nutz (maybe I am). But anyway they (and me for that matter) were surprised to get a letter back from the Vatican, saying basically they sympathise and will pray for me.

Friends in high places? Apart from them praying for me, I don't think a lot will come of it, but I was kind of taken back.

Everone gives high sounding lip-service, but no one wants to get their hands dirty, so it seems. Time will tell, I guess.

 

Firstly, remember that I use "you" as a generalization.
This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me wonder what is really the point. You live your life as best you can and some little (they're always little) officious government t**t will decide that they know what is best for you (WE have your best interests at heart). What a crock. These are people who don't know you, or your family and yet because of "government policy" they will now control your life. Oh Phantom, I feel for you and for my friend who in spite of a severe disabilty still has to work, because he is too young to get social security or qualify for medicare.
I sit here now, kids around, husband sleeping and thank God for what I have and pray that my friends will be able to have what they pray for too.

 

See what I mean? Phantom's a special case. Special person too.

Geez Phantom! I hate to be nosy, but I am browsing several sites at once & I just read the last few posts. I have no friends in high places either, but I am sorry for the hardships that have been visited upon you and your family. I DO care... So (if I understand it correctly) you and your family are stranded in Australia? Or, did I misunderstand?

@Gina:- I'm not exactly stranded here, but due to family commitments I am stuck for a bit more. I did a bit of globe trotting with work contracts last year, but that was just basically to fill the bank accounts up again.

As has been said we just need to be more like the Biblical 'Mary' and be God (or whatever you perceive him to be) focussed and not a 'Martha' and be world focussed.

Well I've just been paged to another urgent call-out, so I'd better strike a blow for the company, LoL. (It's gone 4:25 p.m. o'er here)

LOL. That was in response to another little matchmaker jab from lostkiwi. (Have I mentioned that lostkiwi is just a little bit wicked? ) I occasionally check "Who's Online" to see who's where, & noticed you were reading AbbySue's thread. I figured you were catching up with things after being gone for a few days, & would drop in if/when you wanted to.

 

But I didn't really know that the two of you were chatting. I mean, I had MyIE2 running, had a tab opened to this thread, but would have preferred to chat with you both while you were HERE! I can always catch up on threads after everyone's asleep, seeing as I AM the resident vampire...

I'm beginning to think that Kiwi is not wicked, but knows how to really enjoy life, so I'm trying to allow her to corrupt me a little (J.K. Kiwi, you know I love you...) But can you tell if it's working or not???

Phantom, you have the right idea! Escapism and distraction, well, whenever you have a "distracted" moment that pulls you out of your every day worries, that is a happy moment. Put enough of those moments together and you have an hour, a day, etc. So maybe that's the secret! String enough of those moments together. That, and not taking anything too seriously...

Good evening everybody. just came home, true to my guess the Mavericks got well and truly whomped, half the crowd was busy setting off fireworks, great fun! Paid for 6 grass seats (yep) at $3 each more fun with the rabble. Their town is the only one up here where we can let off fireworks so there are people inside the stadium and outside. They do a fireworks show and then we all head out to the parking lot for more pyromania, most excellent night. As long as I get barbecue, fireworks and pie on the 4th, I'm good!
