Old gateway/monitor says power save mode

    Hi, I have a gateway from like 00' and it crashed completely. I have since, wiped out the hard drive and put it in storage for 16 months. Anyway, when I try to put in the windows XP disc, the monitor won't come off "Power Save Mode". What can I do to get past this, to get to the command prompt? Thanks for your time.
