I have a version of Nolo Willmaker software, made to install on Windows 95 or 3.1

What are the chances it will work on a Windows XP machine?

If I try installing it, will it screw up the computer?

Likely this is 16 bit and will not run properly on XP. You can try it, I doubt you'll suffer more than a crash and reboot. The company still makes this, a 2006 version is available, see if they'll upgrade you for less than a new purchase.
