one moon back!

can anyone remember what the "special moon" they were telling us about a week or two ago was? something to do with being equidistant from something, and/or "hanging" in some position at some certain time...and native american or other folklore. and i think they said "only occurs every 3 years", similar to a "blue" moon.

i think it began with an "L" (tried "lateral" and "landscape" to no avail) but that doesn't google up). there was definitely a wiki page b/c i had a peek at the time. but now i can't remember what the term was!

i will recognize the page if someone can point me at it.

now that they're talking about the "harvest moon" of this past week, it is bugging me.

Oct 29-30 2012, is the Harvest, (Hunter's) Moon, corresponding to the Autumn Equinox, (for the northern hemisphere).

Hunters moon is the first full moon after the harvest moon, In some parts of the world, the Hunters moon is celebrated with a feast. I think they eat all the goodies from the Harvest festival.

hunter's is the NEXT one -- they run sturgeon, harvest, hunter's. in ANY year.

but i'm asking about something ELSE, something SPECIAL that was being described as a "rare occurance". i remember the wiki page showing a graphic about height or azimuth or inclination or sumpin...the gist of which was that moon appears to hang or stop in some special spot (to folklorists of yore, at least).

i made a note "ponder math and work out WHY" but i've lost the page (i.e. the name) before i ever got around to it.

Glad I could help it was an equinox recently on 21st September.

It wasn't that long ago we were looking at Moondogs on this forum.

 

I thought it was simply a "Blue Moon".

i took no condescention from anything. but it certainly would have been warranted dealing with a maroon like me!

i'm still trying to figure out where i came across this lunar standstill thing. was definitely in the news. was there something SIMILAR 2-3 weeks ago which may have referenced it in passing? like a SOLAR standstill...PLANETARY standstill...work standstill at some MOONSHINE plant...??

maybe it was an aside in some blue moon story, although i don't think so. i'd say a week or two AFTER that (i.e. 2-3 weeks pre-Harvest).

 

I remember the Supermoon happening in May 2012. It's when the earth is closest to the earth that coincides with a full moon making it appear larger than normal, hence "supermoon." Lots of 'tin foil wearers' blame natural disasters and such on it..

 

yes, i remember the supermoon in may. i also remember the madonna moon in june!!
