One more quick paint question

    How do i get it to recognize .gifs?

    Start up Paint. Click File, then Open, at the bottom "Files of Type", change to search parameter to .gif and it will show those in your search.

    or force it to with "all files" and then it should 'realise' that it can in fact open .gif files ;)

    True, and universal. If I'm looking for a .gif, or .jpg, in a large mixed folder, I'll usually set the search parameter for whichever I'm looking for, which weeds out all the other file types. But that's just me. :)
