One of my fans stop working

I have two fans and one of them stopped working. What should I do?

 

You'll find most computer shops on line have fans available in several different sizes.

Measure the broken one, get a replacement and you should be able to unscrew the one that's broken and just put the new one in it's place. You don't need to worry about the connector that the fan comes with, it's almost certainly going to be a little 3 pin beige or black plug and will just plug in where the other one was on the mother board.

Only other thing is where is the broken fan on your machine? If it's on the CPU heatsink then I wouldn't use the PC until you have replaced it. If it's on the case then it might be worth taking the side off and aiming a desk fan into the case (great for cooling the case but you'll get dust everywhere so not a good long term solution).

Finally, if it's on the Motherboard itself (it will be a tiny 4cm fan if it is) or the graphics card (if you have one) then don't use the PC until you can replace.

Hope it's a case fan. Easy to change, cheap to replace and you're unlikely to damage anything by losing it (unless the PC was already running hot).

 

I have a Dell XPS system. Its a big tower and their are two fans sitting behind the tower on the lower middle. Does that mean its a case fan?
