Only Favorites work on Internet

Hi all,
I've run across an unusual problem that stumps me, but probably not you. We have 2 Windows XP computers. One desktop, the other a laptop connected via Linksys wireless. I use Mozilla Firefox, he still uses IE. Starting yesterday, neither of us can get onto any sites except the ones that are saved in our Favorites folder. (Thank God MG is in my Favs) When we type in a new address, it shows a blank page and it runs and runs until finally, it says "Done" in the lower left hand corner, but the page is still blank. What could be the problem? We're totally inconvenienced, so any help is appreciated.

CORRECTION! Only certain sites work either way. Some of my Favorite sites come up right away, while others just stay blank (even when typed into the address bar) and there are some random sites that I typed in like "Ask Jeeves" (since Google isn't coming up) that work, but others like "AllRecipes" doesn't. What's going on? I turned off my Zone Alarm firewall thinking that was the problem, but no go.

Any ideas?

Try clearing the browser cache (temporary files in IE).
