I'm trying to fix my buddy's computer here. The problem is that it has got to the point where I can't even boot up the computer. If I boot in safe mode it gets hung up on this file (oopuhnpkpjv.sys) which is in the system/drivers directory. How do I go about removing this if I can't even boot to windows.
    It's a dell inpiron 350.
Is there a way to boot to dos?

    Thanks in advance

I tried a boot disk for dos and it wouldn't recognize my boot device for some reason. I will try though....downloading as I type.
    Thanks.

No boot device available. Although the CD drive is recognized in the bios.

Post in the software forum for further assistance and then you can return here for malware removal once the machine is up and running again.

OK, I've figured out that I can boot the computer with a USB stick. Can I somehow set up the avira program to run off of the stick? Which file from the link above do I use and how do I set it up?

    Thanks,

This explains how to run it off the stick I believe.

OK, I've ran aviva off of my USB stick, found and renamed/deleted a bunch of files (mostly downloaded music files). It still won't boot past this OOPUHNPKPJV.SYS file. Any other suggestions?

Got it figured. I ended up finding a partition on there that I did a clean install of windows on. Hooked up a second HDD and moved everything they wanted to keep on to it (scanned the files first). Then formatted the original HD and did another clean install of XP onto it. Should work good. Thanks for the help

Okay, well if you still wish to run scans you're welcome to, and attach logs. Just in case anything remains. :)

Well Malware Bytes and SUPERantispyware would be a good place to start I suppose.
