opening software

    how do you open up files that have been downloaded using asus Eee pc , never used anything like this before , its my nieces and i want to run malwarebytes etc to clean it , usually when opening files with my other pc's they do it automatically but with asus eee pc it asks you to open with and iam stump :-o, any help would be great , thanks

    You do not run malwarebytes in linux.
    First what operating system is on the eeepc? If you've never seen anything like it, then it is probably linux.

    Rather than downloading programs designed for windows, you get thing added by using repositories (a fancy name for servers containing linux programs).

    I have an eeepc and you do not need VLC. I'm able to play movies and see video online fine by using the installed player on my eeepc.

    Please do not download anything more. You will have unnecessary and unusable programs designed for windows filling up the hard drive or ssd.
