Opera 9.52 incompatible with adobe flashplayer?

Since upgrading to Opera 9.52 from 9.51, I haven't been able to play any flash videos in the browser. What happens is I click the arrow, and the progress bar moves, but the video simply doesn't play. It just shows the screen at about 2 seconds into the video.

I have the latest adobe flash player installed already. I've reinstalled the plugin for Opera, and since doing that a couple of times, I can play a flash video once, and then if I want it to play another one, I have to close the browser and re-open it.

This occurs at youtube videos on the youtube website, as well as any embedded in web pages. Other flash videos from other websites, such as msnbc.com, also behave in the same manner.

The computer is using Windows XP Pro SP2. No problems with IE7 with the flash player.

Other Opera users are also reporting the same issue. The Opera knowledge base is of no help. In fact, I think its information may be outdated, as it mentions a dll that the current version of the flash plug in does not install.

While Opera is certainly still usable, this is spoiling the browsing experience for me. I don't particularly want to have to go back to copying and pasting links into IE7 to watch videos. It may come down to my installing Firefox on that computer after all.

Has anyone else been having trouble with this?

And...maybe it could serve as a warning to other Opera users...don't do the upgrade, maybe wait around for the next one. I've reported it using the browser interface. Unlike Firefox, I don't think the Opera developers monitor user forums and I don't know if they are aware of the problem otherwise.

    Hi

Not having that issue, but I do have a different OS in Vista, but youtube and msnbc videos are playing ok, and I can play one then another without the need to close the browser.

So my thoughts are that its possible Opera is seeing an older file from Flash Player on your PC, so save your Opera bookmarks and note down any tweaked settings and widgets you isntalled, then uninstall completely Opera and then run a tool like CCleaner or KCleaner to clear out your temps and installers, also run CCleaners registry cleaner to help remove any remainin Opera reg files ( run the cleaner a few times until nothing is listing )

Then download this Flash Player cleaner http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe

Then reinstall Opera and then latest Flash Player full version

Thanks for your answer, guys. :)

I realized I had flash installed but not the shockwave part of it, so I installed that. I haven't had a chance to do much testing since then other than last Saturday, the first day I posted about this. I had found it improved, but I think the problem became intermittent rather than constant.

In reading the Opera forums, I found that this is an ongoing issue with the Opera browser, even in versions prior to 9.52. It's been going on for months now. I suggested that each and every time it happens, send one of those web page problem reports. If the Opera developers get reminded enough, maybe they'll work a little harder at fixing it. Some Opera users are copying and pasting URL's to other browsers when it happens, and that's just a nuisance. One must be quite dedicated to a browser to put up with having to do that constantly. Actually, my other computer using Firefox as default browser could only display gibberish on the Youtube page for quite a few months and we put up with that, just used IE instead. Browser updates seemed to have solved that, however.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind. :)
