I am getting a new system and I know some software I will be using:

    AVG
    Comodo
    Spyware Blaster
    AdAware
    Spybot
    CCleaner

Are any of these not necessary or do they have better counter parts? I would also be interested in any program that would make my RAM run more efficiently, my hard drive run faster and cleaner, a registry organizer/cleaner (besides what CCleaner does). If there is anything that would help my graphics run better I would be interested in knowing about that. Basically I am interested in the protection listed above, unless there is better, and anything that can enhance my computer's performance. I started looking through the MG lists and lost my vision for a moment so I decided to ask the experts who use the stuff. I also need to know if I need any of the following:

Dell 19 in 1 Media Reader withBluetooth 2.0
    Application Backup
    Internet Search and Portal
    Vista, PC-Restore, Dim/Insp
    DELL SUPPORT CENTER 2.0
    Dell Dock Consumer
    Dell Video Chat
    ADOBE READER 9.0 MULTI- LANGUAGE
Roxio Creator 10 Dell Edition (Purpose of this?)
McAfee SecurityCenter 15-month (This is junk, right?)
Microsoft Works 9.0, English (Stand in for Word, Excel, etc?)
To activate your online backupaccount, go to Start, Programs, DataSafe Online
    2GB DATASAFE ONLINE 1.1 FOR SDO/DIM/INS/XPS
    DATASAFE ONLINE 1.1 2GB FOR DIM/INS/XPS
    S and P Drop-in-Box Marcom forDHS Desktops
    Dell Remote Access Basic E

    This is my system:

    Intel Core2 processorQ6600 (2.40Ghz,1066FSB) w/Quad Core Technology and 8MB cache
    4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
Nvidia GeForce 9800GT Dual Scalable Link Interface
500GB NCQ SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) w/ 16MB DataBurst Cache
    Windows Vista Premium
    48X Combo and 16X DVD+/-RW

Lastly, is there a way to tell from looking at the above how many USB ports I have available on this system?

Thanks for your opinions, thoughts, and ideas everyone.

36 views and only two responses, don't be shy..all opinions count. Please read the entire post to understand what I am looking for. I generally have decided to follow Mark's advice for spyware and anti-virus protection so now I need to know about tweaking programs for RAM and other stuff. Thanks all!

Vista does an excellent job of managing the memory, just don't freak at how much, it uses as much RAM as it can to speed access. I'll echo Gnee about JKDefrag, great little app!
