Optical and/or digital output

    I would like to know the best way to activate either of these outputs.

    I assume the sound would be better than what I have now.(maybe)

    It depends what you are hooking them up to. Optical requires a fiberoptic cable, or a coaxial cable for S/PDIF. Better quality audio is available via HDMI, but you would need an HDMI cable/adapter that splits the audio from it. Also, you usually can't get audio over DVI, even with a graphics card.

    Also, and amplifier that actually decodes the signal is important too.

    What are you connecting the audio output to?

    I guess I was a little confused.

    I thought these could be used in place of the default speaker(SRS Audio lab)

    This setting is meant to connect to an external device,right?
