Options for connecting HP4 Laserjet

I purchased a new ASUS M11AA series desktop for my wife which replaces an old XP homemade box. The new computer is 64-bit and runs Windows 7.

My dilemma is these newer computers have no parallel nor serial ports and my wife likes to use her old LJ4 which is right next to her desk. Previously, the LJ4 was connected via a dedicated parallel cable. I have considered finding and purchasing, if available, an IDE parallel card but are there drivers readily available which run on 64-bit machines?

So, what are my options to reconnect her LJ4 to the new computer? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and expertise if you've faced this situation.

You can purchase a Parallel to USB cable.

Oh wow...that easy...didn't know those cables existed. Will I need any specific drivers or will the Windows 7 software recognize it?

 

A friend uses a parallel printer (HP Laserjet 5) connected to the USB port of a laptop. But, it's running Windows XP.

While you shouldn't require drivers for the "cable/converter", you will still need the drivers for the printer. I just checked and they are not included in Windows 7 Ultimate.

Before you buy the cable, check if you can download drivers. Here's a starting point.
