Os Install Question

Hello all. I have a system that has Windows XP on a partition and I would like to install Windows 10 on one of the other partitions but the type is logical. Can I install 10 do this drive or do I need to change it to a logical type? If so, how do I do it?

You cannot dual boot XP and Win 10 off separate partitions on the same disk. If you try then Win 10 will boot but XP will not. However if this is a tower you could install a second HDD and install Win 10 to that. When dual booting this way you switch the boot drive by changing the boot order in the BIOS. It may also be possible to use a virtual machine but starting from XP this would not be easy or maybe not even possible.

 

Is it possible to do it with other OSs but just not these two? I am wondering if there are other options like instead of Windows maybe linux?

I dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7.

This is what I did.

1. Install Windows XP.
2. Install Paragon Partition Manager* and partition the hard disk.
3. Install Windows 7.
