So the people from Liverpool stole his picture of a river?

Thats called an invitation in Liverpool ;)

TBH no more than any other city or town in UK or the world, it did gain a reputation, more so from the superb dry humour of scousers in the respect of nicking stuff! if its not nailed down it goes! but in reality city is no better or worse than others, actually in statistics its safer than many.

Some funnies I have found over the years for Liverpool (I can mock the hell out of the city as I work in it)

    Scouse office chair

    Scouse computer keyboard

BUT damn someone stole the mersey!!! Tony you must hand it back otherwise the Wirral lot will be able to get here easier!

And if it is nailed down they take the nails as well, and whatever it was nailed to!

No, the scousers have half-inched the river, not the picture!

I'm sure Tony's sig should read 'Never put off till tomorrow what you CAN'T put off forever'

As it reads it means do everything you don't want to do which is a kinda crappy philosophy :-D The revised version obviously means if you put it off you'll never do it.

That's all I have to add , Oh yeah Tony has been here for a year and had two attempts at posting a picture on a geek forum and failed both times:-D have at him... :wave

Don't worry Tony I've heard of days like this :-D

It is beautiful, too bad it got "nicked" earlier.

Why do they call you Scousers? What is the meaning/origin of that? Complimentary/derogatory?:wave

  31. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

If memory serves me correctly, it comes from a dialect found in Liverpool like hundreds of years ago, like Cockney Ryming Slang almost, a language within a language.
I don't know about way back then but Scouser is more derogatory than complimentary. Although much of the time it's meant in a light hearted manner.

We English have 100 countries under 1 roof lol and pretty much anywhere you come from has a different accent/way of life and name. I'm a Norflk Bumpkin lol We have a farmer accent, well I don't but I should by rights lol, go down south and it changes again, midlands different again and the further North you go the closer the accent and habbits get towards Scottish. But I can drive 10 miles and hear an accent change, drive 400 miles and you almost have a different language, but most of us Brits can at least understand them all :-D
    We're a funny people lol

  32. Nedlamar

Here, this is a reasonable representation of the changes in British Dialect.

Yeah, I agree. A great, friendly, funny city. Been to Merseyside a few times to watch Newcastle and had a great laugh in the pubs before the game.
Humour and friendlinesss in Liverpool is the best I've come across.
If I offended you in any way, Tony........I couldn't care less :-D
BTW, Scouse is an old word for a stew served to sailors (lobscouse to give it's full name.) Liverpudlians, living in a large port, were given the tag Lobscousers which was eventually abbreviated to Scouser.
Which begs the question: Why is abbreviation such a long word?

I am sorry Tony but i remember Liverpool as a run down seedy sea port, My how things have changed.
On the other hand Hale village was always a beautiful place where the rich and famous lived (which are you?)
I however originate from a run down seedy river crossing Stopford (Stockport) where they have one of the finest football teams in Europe Ha Ha (did i really say that)

I know you live in a beautifull part of the word but that JOTS has a real cheek comparing the north east with the north west other wise known as Ekky thump land.

I came in late on this post because i have been away for a few days but it has the makings of a good inter county rivalry.

The picture was taken from Hale shore looking across the river towards the Welsh mountains, it was the sunset and its reflections in the river I was after.
Hows the hubby doing these days?

City is changing in a big way and has been for I would say last 2-3yrs, its renovating very well, the run down port areas (especially around the Albert Dock) are now looking superb, Liverpool One area is really great.

The University area is going through a change and new buildings and many renovated (Victoria Gallery & Museum is cool, nice coffee.. well its 5mins from my Office) and with many more overseas students now in the city its busy as hell.

Next up is the area around the Royal Hospital to be renewed, as works started now for new hospital and surrounding area.

With areas likes Tony's picture and a now vibrant city, with many bars and a superb list of resurants and old buildings with a new lease of life, Liverpool is more appealing than it once was IMHO.

I can appreciate the changes that regeneration has made and applaud the city council for stepping up to make the once great city again a wonderful place.

The last time i was in Liverpool was about 20 years ago when i came to get the Dublin ferry, so after that amount of time it is not surprising there have been many changes.

The UK is one of the few places in the world where if you walk 10 miles in either direction you can no longer communicate with the people even though they still speak Engrish.

I think that's we had so many civil wars and internal strife,we can't tell what each other is saying. :-D

  49. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

    lol Very true.
But you know what, it's what makes us unique.

It's funny, if you think about it the varying dialects simply point to the nations they lead to.

The further north you go the more people start to sound Scottish, the further West the more they sound Welsh....... the further East the more they sound like.....fish? :-D

It's also handy when in conference with other nations who will insist on speaking their own language so as to converse secretly.......we Brits can do that too while still speaking English :-D
